Need for Speed: Carbon takes you by the scruff of the neck and throws you straight into the world’s most dangerous and ferocious form of street racing. With over 50 real-world licensed cars including the Mazda RX-8 BMW M3 GTR Street Dodge Viper SRT10 and Lamborghini Murcielago there should enough to keep even the most jaded petrolhead happy. The game is the first in the series where you can build a crew and race in all-out urban warfare for your city against rival crews and opposing car classes. There are three different car classes to choose from - Tuner American Muscle and Exotic. Need For Speed: Carbon uses an all-new physics model that makes each car handle and drive differently. You must risk life and limb in order to take over rival turfs one street at a time. As the game progresses the police will turn up the heat forcing races to Carbon Canyon which is on the outskirts of the city. Each member of your crew has unique skills that you can trigger by simply pressing a button. A Scout will lead you to shortcuts on the track and a Blocker will - you guessed it - block which will hopefully slow down other racers. You can let your creative juices flow when designing your crew’s cars with the new Autoscuplt car customisation tool that lets you design and morph your car in every way imaginable. It is also possible to tune every car to your heart’s desire which will no doubt lead to absolute mayhem on the roads. So what are you waiting for? The race has just begun…

Boog a friendly 900lb grizzly bear lives with his owner a Park Ranger called Beth in a town called Timberline. The gentle domesticated bear spends his days performing in Beth’s wilderness show riding in her truck and sleeping comfortably in her garage. Boog lives a good life until a pesky one-horned mule deer named Elliot comes into his life and changes it forever. Without wanting to give too much away Elliot gets Boog into some trouble which forces Beth to despatch the pair of them to the forest for good. Lost in the wilderness Boog and Elliot suddenly realise that the hunting season is about to begin. All Boog wants to do is to get back to his comfy garage in Timberline. To do so he has to learn how to make friends with the other animals and get them to help in scaring away the hunters. There are many amusing ways in which you can do this such as setting about the hunters with Psycho Ducks and using skunks as flamethrowers! Open Season the game is full of such delights and 40 or so missions to prove that you can unleash your inner animal and take the forest back. It’s man against nature and the guys with the guns are not gonna win this time!

Bratz is a line of dolls produced by MGA Entertainment. Created in both genders Bratz Boyz and Bratz Girlz they are a worldwide phenomenon with their own fashion and accessoriez line something which is extremely popular with young girls. Bratz: Babyz is based on the animated film of the same name released in 2006. The Bratz girlz are Jade Sasha Cloe and Yasmin who made their first video game appearance back in 2003 on the GBA with a game simply entitled Bratz. You can play as all four of the Bratz girlz in a new adventure as they compete in the America Rocks TV show that sends them across the US of A in search of the most promising young fashion designer. However the trip will be far from straightforward with many strange twists and encounters. Other features of the game include the ability to adopt your very own pet that you can dress train and accessorise to showcase in competitions. There is also an all new figure skating competition that lets you experience the amazing thrill of the ice as you master your routines to impress the watching judges. Bratz: Forever Diamondz is certainly not aimed at the 20+ demographic unless you’re a Bratz fanatic - which would be very worrying indeed for anyone past their early teens. The game is definitely one for the kids and a very good one at that.

Playing a double agent is the new black. If you doubt us see Infernal Affairs or the Martin Scorcese remake: The Departed. But for the first time the veritable Splinter Cell series gets on board the gravy-bandwagon-train. The general double-agent concept fits perfectly with the Splinter Cell series which has always had its roots firmly in the espionage and stealth genre. And lets face it if you are a double agent best not to go drawing attention to yourself. So once more you take the role of Sam Fisher. But this time instead of stealthing around in black as part of the NSA ‘Black Ops’ agency and taking on the bad guys you go undercover with a terrorist organisation and take them on from within. Sneaky. Sam’s deep cover is set up by the intricate staging of a number of bank robberies and murders the result of which is Sam ending up in jail with a terrorist organisation member. Together they break out of prison and Sam is successfully inserted as the spy types say. This undercover-brother schtick is not really a case of bandwagon jumping - it’s an opportunity for Ubisoft to inject some drama into the series as you are faced with moral dilemmas as your straight down the line good guy has to maintain his cover among the evil terrorist scum. As the first next-generation outing for the SC series Double Agent looks incredible - and adds those touches we’re coming to expect from the 360 - like a dynamic weather system that makes visibility variable during the game - adding tension to the already nerve-racking missions as your objective flickers in and out of view. And because this is all dynamic the next time you play through the experience can be subtly different. Double Agent will see you traverse the globe with levels as far spread as Russia the Congo New Orleans and Shanghai…so pack your toothbrush. You won’t have much other gadgetry at your disposal at least initially as you have to maintain your cover. Map size in Double Agent is considerably increased - with the smallest map in the new game being larger than the biggest from the previous game Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

Yay! SpongeBob is back! This time in SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab. Bikini Bottom will never be the same again as everyone’s favourite yellow cartoon spongeman embarks on a series of fantastic tales through nine eye-poppingly colourful levels. In this latest videogame outing for every adult’s favourite kid’s cartoon you have the opportunity to experience five brand new gameplay mechanics including rampaging flying skydiving chase and hot rod racing. Rampaging? Yes you literally rampage through Bikini Bottom as gigantic Plankton. That’s nowhere near all. You also get to speed through the metallic flames chrome and smoke-filled world of Hot Rod racing; fly through the savage jaw of the enormous bull worm as SpongeBob; blast off into outer space and survive a hi-speed asteroid field as Patrick; and plunge into the pages of a comic book as Starfishman and become the hero of the seven seas. Over the past decade the feud between Squaresoft and Nintendo has been one of the industry’s more interesting tiffs. It saw Final Fantasy taken from Nintendo platforms after which a disgruntled Nintendo president made his bitter feelings quite clear for some years to come. However the two giants did get around to resolving their issues and Square’s best-selling franchise finally came back to Nintendo. Square’s first Nintendo offering since Final Fantasy VI on SNES was Final Fantasy Tactics for GBA but Nintendo loyalists and RPG enthusiasts alike demanded a full-on 3D adventure and so Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles was born. In a world ravaged by plague the people depend on a blessed crystal. In order for this crystal to maintain its sparkle and power Mirula Droplets are constantly needed for replenishment but these crystallised drops can only be found in the deepest darkest caverns of a far-off dungeon. Every year the Crystal Caravan must collect the precious Mirula Droplets burdened with the fate of the villagers. This year however players and up to three friends must take the caravan that makes the vital excursion to save the villagers lives… Mirula Droplets? Crystal Caravan? Okay you’ll probably agree that this is one of Final Fantasy’s cheesier plots. In fact as you’ll quickly learn the whole approach to this offering is quite different. We don’t know if it’s Nintendo’s influence or a Square Enix strategy but Crystal Chronicles is clearly aimed at a younger audience. Crystal Chronicles is quite unlike the others in the FF series. Ditching millions of hit points magic points and random battles Crystal Chronicles is less complex with regards to its play mechanic. Here players wander a cartoon-like 3D world - which happens to be beautifully rendered - hacking slashing and casting spells along the way. Enemies can be spotted from a distance and can normally be dispatched by means of several swipes of your sword. In this respect there are similarities of Nintendo’s own RPG series The Legend of Zelda. But things become a little different once magic is thrown into the equation. By defeating enemies and collecting items littered about the world in hidden chests players can gain several types of Magicite that are used to enable various spells such as Fire Ice and Cure. There are only several types of Magicite giving the impression to those who haven’t played it that there isn’t much going on in the world of Crystal Chronicles. However by means of a new spell fusion system players can combine existing magicite to create a new more powerful spell. There’s a lot more to this game than meets the eye. But what’s most important in this particular Fantasy is the ability to partake in a multi-player adventure. It’s a first for Final Fantasy giving players the option to participate with three others in a co-operative adventure similar in some ways to The Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords. Players will have to combine their talents not only to defeat stronger bosses but to solve new puzzles too. It’s a great new feature that is implemented well and that complements Nintendo’s values of multi-player gaming brilliantly. In all honesty Crystal Chronicles is a refreshing change from the norm. It might give ardent Final Fantasy fans a bit of a scare in the beginning but persist and you’ll become immersed in a hardcore RPG worth its weight in gold.

Famously when game designers first put forward the idea of The Sims to Electronic Arts the publisher doubted the idea was viable. The go ahead was eventually given and EA hasn’t looked back. There have been many spin-offs resulting in the franchise being one of the biggest selling of all time. The Sims 2: Pets will build on the much-lauded Sims experience that allows players to create and control the lives loves and entire fates of digital characters from cradle to grave and beyond. The addition of pets for your Sims will no doubt enrich their daily lives. Sims can own cats dogs tropical fish birds and womrats (a creature similar to a guinea pig). The game will feature 15 different breeds of cat and 35 different breeds of dog. There will also be the option to create your ideal pet with the Create-a-Pet feature. In this feature gamers will be able to choose the pet’s body shape facial structure markings colour and even personality. Pets have motives like their Sim counterparts which are similar save for the absence of the environment motive and the respective foibles of scratching for cats and chewing for dogs. Gamers will be able to teach their pet various tricks dress them in the latest accessories take them for a walk in the park and even get them working for a living. It is important to remember that as in real life your pet will require plenty of love attention and training. For example a neglected cat with an urge to scratch might ruin your furniture while leaving your dog in a car on a hot day won’t do Fido any favours.
