At the time of its original appearance on 360 in 2006 Final Fantasy XI was the first massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) available for the console. Thanks to the PlayOnline facility you can join PC and PS2 gamers in the Final Fantasy universe. The 360 version combines PlayOnline and all three expansion packs for the title: Chains of Promathia Rise of Zilart and Treasures of Aht Urhgan. These expansion packs contain 70 original areas new jobs mission scenarios quests and items for gamers to experience. The game is set in the mysterious world of Vana’diel a place once bound by a peaceful alliance between nations but now an evil force is threatening its very existence. It is up to you to restore order and fight the wicked forces. There will be countless missions battles and quests for gamers to enjoy on their own or by teaming up with party members to create strong alliances as they get to grips with the vast land of Vana’diel. There are five very different races that you can choose from in Final Fantasy XI: Elvaan Hume Mithra Galka and Tarutaru. The latest pack Treasures of Aht Urhgan has many new and key features. There are many new places for players to explore including Mamook Al Zahbi and Nashmau. You will also have to engage in conflict with never-seen-before monsters such as Lamia beastmen a powerful tribe called Mamool Ja and the Merrow which can live on land or in the sea. Another new element especially for veteran fans is the option to raise and look after your own chocobo. Two new game modes make a welcome debut on this expansion pack. ‘Besieged’ will let you defend your towns from the deadly beastman while ‘Assault’ allows players who are past level 50 play missions immediately without having to partake in a long quest or assemble a large party. It’s all reassuringly familiar classic Square Enix but Final Fantasy really looks like something else in high definition on the 360. The Rise of Zilart expansion unlocks further areas containing new jobs and abilities. Chains of Promathia grants access to even more areas featuring all-new monsters quests and missions. Finally Treasures of Aht Urgan is a mysterious new continent in the world of Vana’diel and offers yet more deep and rewarding gameplay.
First came Final Fantasy XI inviting players to join the world of Final Fantasy online. Not wanting to rest on its laurels Square Enix followed that up with Rise of the Zilart Chains of Promathia and Treasures of Aht Urhgan. Now Square’s at it again with the fourth expansion pack for Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Goddess. The expansion returns players to the land of Vana’diel but it might not look entirely familiar. Players are sent back to a time before Final Fantasy XI. A time that was dark and foreboding. Many died many saw their hopes and futures crushed for many it was a time without joy. All hope is not lost however because that’s where you and other gamers from across the world are going to head to sort things out. New to this expansion will be two new jobs: Dancer and Scholar. Dancers will use tactical points to power special moves that will get their party bonuses while hindering opponents. Scholars meanwhile will have the option of using both White and Black magic. Not as wussy as they sound are they?
Hitman: Blood Money places gamers once again in the role of the world’s greatest assassin Agent 47. When assassins from Agent 47’s contract killing firm The ICA are offed in a series of hits it seems as though a more powerful agency has entered the fray. In an attempt to avoid the mortuary slab Agent 47 travels to America - visiting and making money in places like Los Angeles Las Vegas New Orleans and Mississippi. Hitman: Blood Money has been made even more realistic since Agent 47’s last outing with the whole new Glacier Game Engine. Agent 47 has a number of new features including the ability to dispose of bodies in boxes and enclosed spaces as well as making hits look like accidents such as dropping a chandelier on a target’s head or using a remote bomb. Hitman: Blood Money also has a redesigned NPC and AI system. Gamers can use the cash raised from hits to bribe the press or to customise and upgrade weapons to suit their individual style of assassination. Even if you are new to the Hitman series don’t worry because the game offers a new rookie mode as well as various levels of difficulty that will give players all the training needed to be a successful contract killer.
Koei has finally gone and done it. For the first time two of its mammoth franchises - Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors - have come together in Warriors Orochi for a game that’s suitably epic in scope. Without any kind of warning the evil Serpent King Orochi has descended from the skies. Not only is he unannounced he’s shattered time and space. Damned inconsiderate really. He’s gone and kidnapped the strongest wisest and most courageous warriors from Ancient China and Feudal Japan to test his might against. Fortunately in amongst the kidnapped are the heroes of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors to sort things out. The game boasts an impressive roster of some 77 playable characters from both series. It’s the hack-’n-slash gameplay you’ve come to expect but for the first time in one of Koei’s tactical action games players can create their own three man tag team. Characters are all categorised according to their strengths (Power Speed and Technique) so players will be able to mix and match to find the ultimate offensive combo with Weapon Fusion allowing them to combine the attributes from different weapons for even greater effect. There are two modes to play with. Story Mode is the core campaign with players taking on the perspective of four factions: Shu Wei Wu and the Samurai Warriors. Once you’ve played through that Free Mode will allow you to play through again with all the characters you’ve unlocked. Each faction sports eight regular missions and seven side missions so when you throw in the hordes of enemies you have to fight Warriors Orochi should give you plenty to go at.
