Posted on Apr 23, 2008 under desktop computer | No Comment

Battlefield 2142 Deluxe Edition is the complete Battlefield experience containing the original game the Northern Strike booster pack and a new map Highway Tampa. In Battlefield 2142 the dawn of a new ice age has placed the world on red alert. Most of the earth is covered by ice and the parts that aren’t iced over can only feed a fraction of the Earth’s population. Therefore the majority of the population will eventually die. Gamers must choose to fight for one of two military superpowers - the newly formed Pan-Asian Coalition or the European Union - in what will be a monumental battle for survival. Players will be delighted to know that they will be armed with an arsenal of hi-tech weaponry that would make Robocop proud including assault rifles sentry guns and cloaking devices. There will also be the opportunity to drive some of the most lethal vehicles known to man. Huge Battle Walkers engage in fierce combat on the ground while futuristic aircraft rule the skies. When taking on the Battle Walkers and futuristic aircraft players must stay extremely alert and use the arsenal of hi-tech countermeasures like smart mines and EMP grenades to their advantage. Up to 64 players can enjoy the epic online gameplay. Gamers will be dropped on the frontlines straight into the action as part of a formal squad or behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of the other members of their team.

Universe at War: Earth Assault

Did you know that December 21st in 2012 is the date that the world’s set to end according to the Mayan calendar? It could mean anything: massive sunspot activity reversal of the Earth’s magnetic field one of those things falling from space that people make films about… or maybe an alien invasion? Well if you’re getting stuck into Universe at War: Earth Assault you’d best run with alien invasion because that’s when the game kicks off and that’s what’s happening. Hailing from the studios of Petroglyph the developer behind Star Wars: Empire at War Universe at War: Earth Assault is a real time strategy title that pitches four factions into all out war: humans the Hierarchy the Masari and the Novus. In a nutshell the Hierarchy want to conquer Earth and it leads to all kind of bad news for our little blue and green sphere. High up the list of features in Universe at War: Earth Assault is what Petroglyph calls ‘Tactical Innovations’. This will allow players to retrain and customise their units even during the heat of battle. Get it right and you’ll find yourself overwhelming the enemy and making the most of tactical opportunities. Universe at War also features deformable terrain so you’ll be able to lay huge cities to waste and then come back to visit the battle scars you’ve left on the very planet. The game comes complete with a multiplayer mode that borrows from MMOs. Players will be able to engage each other on a persistent virtual Earth racking up achievements rewards and medals as they go.

The Club

Posted on Apr 23, 2008 under desktop computer | No Comment

Imagine an organisation so secretive that only a handful of people across the globe know that it exists: an organisation that recruits ‘outsiders’ to fight in an underground bloodsport like ancient gladiators. The combatants have only one option open to them - kill or be killed. Drug lords Mob bosses Dotcom billionaires rock stars and politicians rub shoulders with Hollywood superstars royalty and the aristocracy in The Club. Each one shares a lust for death bloodshed and chaotic gunplay and a belief that their wealth and power puts them above and beyond the reach of normal laws. The entry fee is astronomical and membership is for life. Once you’re in the club you can’t leave…unless you manage to fight your way through eight deadly arenas and 49 levels in single-player mode or multiplayer to secure your freedom from The Club. Tournament mode invites you to compete against other members of The Club in deadly tournaments spread across the globe. Each event must be played in sequence with points awarded based on your position in the league table. You only need to survive until the end of the tournament in order to unlock the next event but come in the top three and you will earn a bullet. During any event in Tournament you will have a maximum of five attempts before it’s ‘Game Over’. Within Tournament there is a handful of sub-modes if you will: Sprint Siege Survivor Time Attack and Run the Gauntlet are just how they’re described and add to the longevity. If you find that The Club is being a little tough on you (or you just can’t handle the heat you sissy) then Single Event is the option to choose. Here you can practice the events you have unlocked in Tournament mode. Multiplayer is a major plus factor in The Club as online play supports up to eight players. As in Tournament’s single-player mode there are several game types waiting within multiplayer such as Hunter/Hunted Kill Match Team Skullshots and Team Foxhunt. The Club - whichever way you play it - is all about the kill. Killing earns scores scores mean success and success means survival.

This is the essence of the game: each agent working with and protecting the other to create the perfect Denied Ops team. As a single-player experience you are plunged into the action after a short introduction to the two Special Activities Division agents Graves and Lang and a summary of the geo-political situation that lies at the heart of the game. There is a Co-Operative mode too enabling two players to play through the entire campaign story or individual missions. The big draw in Conflict: Denied Ops is the multiplayer facet. Up to 16 players can take part in Deathmatch Team Deathmatch and Conquest. It’s explosive stuff alright.
